ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE FORD EXPLORER 2021

The Ford Explorer is the mid-size SUV that Ford fans love. Significantly redesigned in 2020 and available in several trim levels, it continues to improve in 2021 with some noteworthy new features.

But it maintains the features that made it so famous in the first place. For example, it includes three rows of seats that you can actually use; that's not always the case in vans of this size. It also has a large cargo area, making it a wise family-friendly choice while giving it an advantage in terms of versatility.

Because of it's modern sophistication, it also has all the connectivity options that have become indispensable, from Android Auto and Apple Car Play to the possibility of having an Internet network in the vehicle.

Every version is all-wheel drive, which is not the case with our neighbours south of the border. The base and XLT models are equipped with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. And while a hybrid powertrain is available as an option on the Limited model, the Platinum and high-end sport ST models are equipped with a twin-turbo V-6 engine.

A FEW CHANGES

For 2021, Ford has chosen to keep the same versions. However, we improved on comfort by offering heated seats as standard features, and offered an optional heated steering wheel.

A sporty-looking package is now available on the XLT version, including 20-inch Carbon Grey aluminum wheels. In addition to the upgraded wheels, the package also consists of a mesh grille with Carbon Grey accents, as well as a unique rocker panel, dual exhaust outlets, light slate-coloured interior trim, fake skid plates, and much more.

INTERIOR AND COMFORT

The cabin of the Ford Explorer is pleasant and well thought out. It's functional and offers plenty of room for occupants, no matter what seat they're sitting in. Even access to the rear seats has become more accessible thanks to a new mechanism that allows the second- row seat to be removed at the touch of a button.

An 8.0-inch touch screen infotainment display is standard. To get the optional 10.1-inch vertically oriented display, you'll need to upgrade to the Platinum or ST version; however, each model is available with voice-activated navigation and a rear-seat entertainment system. A 12-speaker B&O audio system also comes standard in almost all models.

Safe, comfortable and powerful - it can tow up to 5100 pounds if adequately equipped - the 2021 Ford Explorer certainly has a version that will meet your needs.

HYBRID AND ECONOMICAL

More powerful versions of the Ford Explorer are also available. The 400 horsepower of the ST version, for example, allows you to move the SUV with surprising enthusiasm in a vehicle of this size. The 3.0- litre twin-turbo V6 engine is impressive, and since the gearbox has also been adapted for these specifications.

Ford can now boast an SUV with a lively and dynamic response. It should be noted that the same engine also equips the Platinum version but is configured differently for 365 horsepower.

Having said that, the basic versions are not to be outdone. Their engine, a 300-hp, 2.3-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder with 300 horsepower, is more than enough to get the job done, making the Explorer one of the most fuel-efficient in its class.
However, the real find is the hybrid version, which has joined the Explorer lineup for 2021. It combines a 3.3-litre V-6 engine with an electric motor for a combined output of 318 horsepower.
