Find out moreThe Ford F-Series has been the best-selling truck in Canada for 60 consecutive years, and the 2027 F-150 shows why Ford keeps listening to the people who drive it. This year’s updates focus on the jobs owners do most: pulling trailers on long highway runs, getting strong pulling power from the standard engine, and parking a tough work truck in the driveway that looks the part.
Three changes lead the way. BlueCruise hands-free highway driving will work with a trailer hooked up, a new 3.0L EcoBoost V6 takes over as the standard engine, and the first-ever F-150 Carhartt edition joins the lineup. Here’s a closer look at each one, plus the styling updates coming to several trims.
BlueCruise already lets F-150 drivers take their hands off the wheel on pre-qualified divided highways that Ford calls Blue Zones. Ford counts nearly 210,000 km of them. For 2027, the F-150 becomes the first Ford truck to offer BlueCruise with Towing, so the same hands-free, eyes-on driving will be possible with a boat, camper or equipment trailer behind the truck.
The feature will handle up to 10,000 lbs (4,536 kg) of trailer when the truck is properly equipped with the Tow/Haul Package and the optional Max Tow Axle. Ford says that’s more hands-free towing capacity than any other gas-powered pickup in its class.
Ford is also keeping access wide open. Every 2027 F-150 equipped with BlueCruise will be able to use BlueCruise with Towing, with no restriction to top trims. An active BlueCruise plan or trial is required, and the driver always stays alert and responsible for the vehicle.
Towing changes how a truck steers, brakes and reacts to wind, so Ford built several safeguards into the system. Engineers tested dozens of truck-and-trailer combinations at high elevations, on tight curves and across windy plains, then expanded that work with simulation testing in Ford’s Driving Dynamics Lab.
Lane changes are done manually while towing, In-Lane Repositioning is switched off, and the system prompts the driver to put both hands back on the wheel when it detects a construction zone.
The 2027 F-150 swaps its 2.7L EcoBoost V6 base engine for a new 3.0L EcoBoost V6. This 3.0L 6-cylinder engine makes 325 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, and it runs on regular 87-octane fuel. The two engines share the same core architecture and the same peak capability, and Ford says the 3.0L delivers roughly 10 to 11 percent more torque where most daily driving happens.
For buyers who start with the standard engine, that means more muscle in everyday traffic and on the highway on-ramp. The 3.0L EcoBoost is rated to tow up to 8,400 lbs (3,810 kg) on 4x2 trucks and 8,200 lbs (3,719 kg) on 4x4 trucks, with up to 796 kg (1,755 lbs) of payload on 4x2 models.
Gas engines pair with a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, while the hybrid uses a 10-speed Modular Hybrid automatic. Here’s how the core lineup stacks up:
The 13,500 lb rating applies to a SuperCrew 4x4 with the 6.5-ft box, the 3.5L EcoBoost V6, the Tow/Haul Package and the optional Max Tow Axle. Rounding out the range are a 3.5L EcoBoost High-Output V6 with 450 hp and 510 lb-ft and a 5.2L supercharged V8 with 720 hp and 640 lb-ft, both of which call for premium 91-octane fuel.
Ford and Carhartt both trace their roots to Detroit, and Carhartt has been making durable workwear since 1889. After debuting on Super Duty, the Carhartt name comes to the F-150 for the first time on 4x4 XLT SuperCrew models. The F-150 Carhartt is expected to arrive in early 2027.
Outside, the truck will ride on unique 20-inch wheels and wear distinctive fender vents, Carhartt badging, and a lower rocker and tailgate graphic. Signature headlamps, a cowl hood, a modified grille, dual exhaust and off-road running boards give it a tougher stance, and a Carhartt-branded spray-in bedliner protects the box.
Inside, two-tone Carhartt seat covers take their cue from the seams and contrast panels of the brand’s jackets and bibs. The door trim panels, centre console lid and steering wheel get accent stitching, and all-weather floor mats wear the Carhartt logo.
The 2027 F-150 XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum will also get newly designed grilles and new wheel designs. Ford shaped the update around owner feedback asking for a modern take on a familiar face, so the truck keeps its recognizable look while gaining a sharper front end.
