Find out moreThe 2026 Ford Ranger gives mid-size truck buyers four clear paths: the work-ready XL, the well-equipped XLT, the comfort-focused Lariat and the trail-built Raptor. Every Ranger sold in Canada comes as a SuperCrew 4x4 with a 10-speed automatic transmission, so the real decision comes down to engine, towing needs, features and how far off the pavement you plan to go.
This guide breaks down each trim, compares the key numbers side by side and helps you match the right Ranger to the way you drive. From weekend towing to daily commuting to rocky trails, one of these four trims is built for the job.

Before you compare trims, it helps to know what comes with every Ranger. The foundation is the same across the lineup, so even the XL brings a capable, well-rounded truck to the table.
The XL is the Ranger for buyers who want capability without extras they won’t use. It runs a 2.3L EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine with 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, and it carries up to 800 kg (1,763 lbs) of payload, the highest figure in the lineup.
Standard equipment covers the essentials: 17-inch black steel wheels with 255/70R17 all-terrain tires, LED reflector headlamps with automatic high beam, cloth bucket front seats, a 60/40 rear bench with under-seat storage, single-zone air conditioning and a 10-inch touchscreen paired with an 8-inch digital cluster. USB-A and USB-C ports, the Lane-Keeping System and remote keyless entry with a tailgate lock round it out. Buyers can add the FX4 Off-Road Package, the Trailer Tow Package, an electronic-locking rear differential and Pro Power Onboard 400 W. The XL fits trades, small businesses and anyone who wants a no-fuss truck that tows 7,500 lbs (3,402 kg) when properly equipped.
The XLT adds the comfort and safety features most daily drivers want. The Sport Appearance Package is standard, with 17-inch grey aluminum wheels, a grey grille, fascia and bumper, and a sport box decal. LED fog lamps, carpet flooring with floor mats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, SiriusXM with 360L and a wireless charging pad also come standard.
Ford Co-Pilot360 joins the XLT too, including the Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert and Trailer Coverage, a helpful feature for anyone who tows. The XLT is also the first trim to offer the 2.7L EcoBoost V6 with 315 hp and 400 lb-ft, which raises torque by 90 lb-ft over the standard engine. Payload with the V6 is 686 kg (1,513 lbs). Available upgrades include power heated front seats, a power moonroof with a power-sliding rear window, Connected Navigation and a Technology Package.
The Lariat turns the Ranger into a premium daily driver. It rides on 18-inch machined aluminum wheels with dark pockets and wears a chrome-bar grille. Inside, power heated ActiveX front seats with driver memory, a heated steering wheel, ambient lighting and a Bang & Olufsen 10-speaker sound system with a subwoofer and HD Radio set the tone.
Technology steps up as well, with a 12-inch touchscreen, a 12-inch digital cluster, a 360-Degree Camera with an off-road screen, Intelligent Access with push-button start, Zone Lighting, a universal garage door opener, a power-sliding rear window and Pro Power Onboard 400 W for in-cab and in-bed outlets. The Lariat offers the same engine choices as the XLT and the same 7,500 lbs (3,402 kg) towing rating with the Trailer Tow Package, so comfort comes with no loss of capability.

The Raptor sits at the top of the lineup with a 3.0L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 that makes 405 hp and 430 lb-ft. Its hardware is purpose-built for rough terrain, and its 272 mm of ground clearance tops the 235 mm found on other trims.
The Raptor also brings power heated leather front seats with memory, six auxiliary upfitter switches, remote start, active exhaust and an exclusive Shelter Green paint colour. Pro Trailer Backup Assist and an integrated trailer brake controller come standard, with a towing rating of 5,510 lbs (2,499 kg) and payload of 623 kg (1,373 lbs).
Start with how you will use the truck most. If maximum payload and simple ownership top your list, the XL delivers 800 kg (1,763 lbs) of payload and the full 7,500 lb towing rating with the Trailer Tow Package.
If you tow on weekends and drive the truck every day, the XLT with the 2.7L EcoBoost V6 is the strongest all-rounder, with 400 lb-ft of torque and blind spot coverage that extends to the trailer. Buyers who spend long hours behind the wheel will appreciate the Lariat’s heated seats and steering wheel, larger screens and 360-Degree Camera. For drivers who head off-road often, the Raptor’s FOX suspension, front and rear lockers and 405 hp make it the clear pick.
Ready to narrow it down? Book a test drive at Reliable Ford in Fergus and feel the difference between the 2.3L and 2.7L EcoBoost engines from behind the wheel. Our team will help you compare the XL, XLT, Lariat and Raptor side by side and build the Ranger that fits your work, your weekends and your trailer.
